THUNDERHEAD (1st Session - Jul, 2014)

SUMMARY
This beer was GREAT.
Other than Fumigator, this is my favorite brew thus far. It comes across more like a pale ale than a Cal Common, but I believe that's because my fermentation temps were a tad too high. Also, the recipe just has too much going on in the grain bill. The next time around, I'm going to get my fermentation temps to the lower 60s, and bump up the hops a bit. But, even without adjustments this is a solid brew.

TASTING NOTES
Initial Taste (2 weeks)
- Subtle pleasant hop profile
- Nice malt backbone
Second Taste (2 months)
- Hops mellowed nicely, but would like a more pronounced hop presence
- Solid beer, but could be more lager-esque

LESSONS LEARNED
Simplified grain bills are easier to fine tune
Fermentation temps can play a big role (especially when you toe the threshold)
Stick to either 2-row or pale malt as a base (the mix unnecessarily complicates things)
